Fellow Raleigh Citizens,
It has been my privilege to serve the citizens of Raleigh as Councilor At-Large since 2005. From the beginning, my approach to the job has been both simple and challenging: to make daily decisions that will keep Raleigh healthy and competitive in the long run.
Staying Healthy:
Keeping Raleigh healthy requires doing several things well at the same time, including (1) environmental stewardship, (2) safeguarding the physical, social and economic well-being of our citizens, and (3) actively championing local businesses - the engines of wealth creation and innovation.
Staying Competitive:
Governing a city that aspires to excellence among competing cities requires a clear game plan, a team approach, and a highly competitive spirit. We have all enjoyed celebrating high national rankings, but we still have plenty of room for improvement. In our new Comprehensive Plan draft, the citizens of Raleigh have set out a clear game plan with ambitious goals for achieving excellence over the next twenty years.
Achieving Our Goals
Achieving our goals means competing at a high level by challenging conventional ways of doing business, both in & out of government, reaching out to build consensus for innovation and shared prosperity, while working every day to excel in every aspect of city life.
This is what I bring to the job:

I grew up competing on teams that were committed to challenging themselves to win.

My professional education in architecture and environmental design trained me to be an active listener and a problem solver, with the skills for working together to make people's lives better.

I bring the perspective of growing up around the world, but with deep Raleigh roots.

I have an unparalleled Council record of hard work and long hours to keep Raleigh healthy and competitive in the long run.

Finally, I love Raleigh, I am here for the duration, and with your support I will continue working every day to make Raleigh great.
