Jobs & Economic Opportunities

Creating jobs for Raleigh citizens,
especially 21st century green jobs and jobs that provide multiple benefits, is a top priority.  A prime example is weatherization jobs available with federal funds that not only build basic skills in the green job sector, but also keep utility bills down, and therefore keep housing in Raleigh more affordable.

When Russ met with Senator Kay Hagan this spring to discuss stimulus-related jobs, he also emphasized local planning for a Job Skills Training Center and a request for future federal construction funding.

Raleigh does have a number of major projects underway, including park, greenway and community center improvements.  Most of these are voter-approved projects funded from bond referendums in 2005 and 2007.  In addition to providing jobs now, these projects will provide quality-of-life benefits to Raleigh citizens for generations to come.

Russ understands the importance of economic development and community outreach partnerships. Examples pictured here include:

   ·  a mobile media project with Jim Goodmon of Capital Broadcasting Corp.,

   ·  a community health initiative with Dr. Leroy Darkes of Rex Healthcare,

   ·  and a recent gathering at John Chavis Day to hear keynote comments on economic
development in Southeast Raleigh by Wallace Green (2nd from right).
